How does the plant Nephrolepis reproduce?

Open in App
Solution

Nephrolepis:

The plant Nephrolepis is included in the group pteridophyte. Ferns are included in this group.

Reproduction:

  1. Nephrolepis reproduce through both sexual and asexual methods.
  2. During asexual reproduction, buds are produced which grow into a new plant.
  3. During sexual reproduction, spores are produced in the sporangium.
  4. In favorable conditions, these spores germinate and prothallus is developed.
  5. When this prothallus becomes mature, at the ventral side sexual organs antheridia and archegonia are produced.
  6. Antheridia appears first then archegonia appears.
  7. In antheridium, antherozoids are produced.
  8. In archegonium, an egg cell is produced.
  9. For fertilization, water is required as a medium.
  10. After fertilization (fusion of male and female gametes), the zygote develops into a diploid sporophyte.
