Question

How does the progeny termed from asexual reproduction differs from those formed by sexual reproduction?

Open in App
Solution

The progeny obtained fro asexual mode of reproduction arises from a single parent. They have the same genetic material as that of its parent. In asexual reproduction, there is no meiosis, fusion of gametes, fertilization or zygote formation. So, offsprings are exact copies or replicas of their parents. Moreover, in the sexual mode of reproduction, the offsprings have genetic material of both the parents. Male and female gametes fuse during the sexual mode of reproduction and form a zygote which then develops to form an embryo. Thus, they are not exact clones of their parents but have variations induced in them.
