How does the random motion of free electrons in a Conductor gets affected when a potential difference is applied across its ends?

when potential difference is applied the electrons are pushed towards the +veside of battery.(towards the positive end)therefore along with random motion ,they get a push(drift) towards a particular direction.therefore their effective collisions increases. or we may say that their drift velocity increases
