Question

How does the reactivity of nonmetals very down a group?

Open in App
Solution

As we go down a group the reactivity of non-metals decrease.

This is because :

  • The number of valence shells increases
  • The force with which the nucleus holds the electrons decreases
  • Thus the tendency to lose electrons increases
  • Since non metals gain electrons to form a completely filled outermost shell, the reactivity decreases
