Question

How does the water kept in the earthen pot become cold during summer?

Open in App
Solution

Step-1: Evaporation- The phenomenon of change of a liquid into its gaseous state at any temperature below its boiling point is known as evaporation. Step-2: The water kept in the earthen pot become cold during summer because

  1. Water from porous walls of earthen pot evaporates continuously, which lowers the temperature of water kept in the earthen pot.
  2. In summer, moisture level is very low in the atmosphere, which increases the rate of evaporation, as evaporation is inversely proportional to the moisture level in atmosphere. That is why, in summer water kept in earthen pot becomes cool.
