How does tooth decay occur?

Open in App
Solution

Tooth decay:

Tooth decay is the condition of decaying of enamel of teeth that occurs due to the generation or presence of acid in the mouth. Acid can come from the bacterial sources and also due to acid reflux.

1. As we eat food, the food particles can accumulate between the teeth unless the mouth is washed properly. The bacteria present inside the mouth starts eating the food and results in generation of acids. The acid accumulating in the mouth starts decaying the teeth.

2. Acid reflux coming out of the stomach reaches the mouth where it decays the teeth.
