How does Turners syndrome affect the endocrine system?

Open in App
Solution

Turners syndrome:

  1. Turners syndrome refers to a genetic condition that occurs in females.
  2. It is characterized by the absence of one X-chromosome and results in several medical and developmental problems.
  3. Girls with this condition are born with ovaries that have very low function or are non-functional.
  4. The under-developed ovaries thus result in reduced production of oestrogen and progesterone and this leads to delayed puberty.
  5. The lack of oestrogen in the system also gives rise to osteoporosis.
  6. These individuals are mostly sterile.
