Water can be polluted by number of ways:

(i) A major fraction of pesticides and fertilizers that are added to our crops are washed into water bodies, polluting the water.
(ii) Due to dumping of sewage into rivers or lakes.
(iii) Due to dumping of wastes from factories into rivers or lakes.
(iv) Due to oil spills in the oceans.
