Open in App
Solution

Role of water in kidney function:

  1. Kidney is the organ that responsibly excretes out waste material from the body.
  2. It is composed of nephrons (structural and functional unit of kidney) that help in purifying blood.
  3. Kidneys generate urine as a waste composed of harmful nitrogen molecules such as ammonia.
  4. Water plays an essential role in kidney function as it acts as a buffer in which the filtration process occurs.
  5. Water helps to keep the blood vessels open so that blood can travel to the kidneys by maintaining blood pressure.
  6. Water helps in the ultrafiltration (removing large blood proteins via pressure) process to generate urine.
  7. Hence, this is how water helps to remove waste from the blood in form of urine.
  8. Therefore dehydration can form kidney stones and cause urinary tract infections.
