Elements have only one kind of atoms and cannot be broken down further as they are the basic units of matter (1 Mark) whereas compounds may or may not have one kind of atom and can be broken down, but only chemically. (1 Mark)
The properties of compounds are:
1.Elements in a compound are in fixed proportion. (1 Mark)
2.They are homogenous i.e. identical. (1 Mark)
3.Particles of compounds are of one kind only. (1 Mark)
