Epithelial tissue:

  1. Epithelial tissue is a layer of cells which forms the free surface of the body either externally or internally.
  2. Epithelial tissue protects the internal structures of the organs and organ systems of the body.
  3. Epithelial tissues have been classified into three types according to their shape-
    • Squamous epithelium: Squamous epithelial tissues are made up of flat cells and are usually found in the walls of blood vessels, skin, etc.
    • Cuboidal epithelium: Cuboidal cells are made up of cube-shaped cells that are found in ducts of glands.
    • Columnar epithelium: Columnar cells are made up of tall pillar-like cells and are usually found in the linings of the stomach and intestine.
