Question

How has nationalism affect the game of cricket? State the views of Gandhi regarding Pentangular Cricket?

Open in App
Solution

Nationalism affected the game of cricket because with rising nationalism, people began to identify themselves with the Indian national cricket team. People were inspired by the goal of playing for the national team. With this goal, increasingly many people started playing cricket.

Mahatma Gandhi was against the pentangular cricket tournament. This was because this tournament has teams on the basis of religions---Hindus, Muslims, Parsees, Europeans and the Rest. He felt that the tournament contributed to the division in Indian society as people were made conscious of their religions through this tournament.
