Any one of the following two methods can be employed.

(i) Williamson's synthesis

(a) $3 C H_{3} C H_{2} C H_{2} O H P r o p a n - 1 - o l + P B r_{3} \to 3 C H_{3} C H_{2} C H_{2} B r 1 - b r o m o p r o p a n e + H_{3} P O_{3}$

(b) $C H_{3} C H_{2} C H_{2} O H S o d . p r o p o x i d e + 2 N a \to 2 C H_{3} C H_{2} C H_{2} O^{-} N a^{+} S o d i u m p r o p o x i d e + H_{2}$

Reaction mechanism

or

(ii) By dehydration of 1-propanol with conc. $H_{2} S O_{4}$ at 413 K
