Open in App
Solution

Explain a Compass:

  1. A compass is a device that is based on the principles of magnetism.
  2. It consists of a freely rotating magnetic needle, that always points in the direction north.
  3. The magnetic needles always align themselves in the north-south direction.
  4. One end of the magnetic needle is marked red, which represents the north pole.
  5. The other end of the needle represents the south pole.
  6. When these two directions are known, the other two directions can be estimated.
  7. In this way, a compass can be used to find the directions.
