How is a prokaryotic cell different from a eukaryotic cell?
There are basically two types of cells in an organism. The two types of cells are listed below.
The difference between Prokaryotic cells and Eukaryotic cells are listed below
Prokaryotic | Eukaryotic |
1. They are generally small in size | 1. Eukaryotic cells are comparatively larger in size. |
2. ribosome present | 2. ribosome present |
3. It lacks any membrane-bound organelles, i.e., ER, Golgi bodies, mitochondria, etc., are absent. | 3. It is characterized by means of membrane-bound organelles. |
4. A single chromosome is present as genetic material | 4. More than one chromosome is present |
5. The nuclear matter is undefined without any nuclear membrane and is called the nucleoid. | 5. A true nucleus with the nuclear membrane is present |
6. Cell division takes place through binary fission, budding, fragmentation | 6. Cell division takes place through mitosis and meiosis. |
7. DNA arrangement is circular | 7. DNA arrangement is linear |
6. Example: Bacteria, Blue-green algae | 6. Example: Plant and animal cell |
