Question

How is abiogenesis theory disproved experimentally?

Open in App
Solution

Louis Pasteur was the scientist who performed an experiment that proves that organisms can be developed only from live cells. The scientist used a special flask whose neck was shaped like an S. There was broth poured in the flask. The broth was called infusion. The infusion was boiled for killing any microorganisms which were already present. The infusion was exposed to air. However, dust particles and other things in the air cannot enter the infusion because they were trapped in the curve of the flask. The flask was tapped to allow the things trapped in the neck to get into the infusion. The microorganisms began to appear in the infusion and multiply rapidly. This demonstrates that microorganisms do not appear as a result of spontaneous generation. They are introduced from the sources of microbes in the atmosphere.
