How is absolute alcohol obtained?

Open in App
Solution

The chemical substance Ethanol (C2H5OH) is known as absolute alcohol also called as Ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH). The Ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) must contain no more than 1%of Water (H2O) to be considered "absolute."
By distilling wet alcohol with Benzene (C6H6), absolute alcohol can be obtained. The combination of water (H2O) and Benzene (C6H6) distils away, leaving behind anhydrous alcohol.
