Question

How is air pressure related to the wind?

Open in App
Solution

Instructions:
  • What is air pressure?
  • Relation between air pressure and wind.
Solution:

Air pressure is the pressure exerted by the air on the surface of the Earth due to the weight of the overlying air column. It varies from place to place and from time to time.
  • The pressure is classified into high pressure and low pressure.
  • When a lot of air molecules get compressed in a small space, it leads to high pressure. And when the air molecules are far apart from each other, there is plenty of space between them, which leads to low pressure.
  • Air always moves from a region of high pressure to a region of low pressure.
  • This pressure difference leads to the formation of winds.
