Mass number is defined as the total number of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus of an atom that is it is a term which signifies the number.It is represented by A.


ATOMIC NUMBER :

Atomic mass of an element is the mass of total number of protons and neutrons present in nucleus an atom. It is determined with reference to another element which is carbon. It usually expressed in atomic mass units (amu).

Example:-
Chlorine
Atomic mass = 35.5 u
Mass number = 35 or 37
