Purpose of auxin in agriculture:

  1. Auxins are plant hormones that help in plant growth and cell differentiation of meristems.
  2. They also promote root growth.
  3. They also promote flowering in pineapples.
  4. They induce parthenocarpy (fruit without fertilization).
  5. Auxins also promote differentiation of xylem tissue.
  6. As auxins are plant growth hormones hence they inhibit the premature falling of fruits and leaves.
  7. They are widely used as weedicides to kill dicotyledonous weeds, without affecting grasses and other mature monocotyledonous plants.
