Conversion of biomass into ethanol:
Biomass comprises of mass of all living organisms.
Biomass is known as the total organic matter (carbon-based).
Via the process of fermentation, biomass is converted into ethanol.
Fermentation is an anaerobic process by which the glucose (biomass) is broken down into an alcohol acid.
Products such as yogurt, beer, wine, etc., are made using the fermentation process.
For example, yeast can be used to ferment glucose to produce alcohol as shown below in the diagram.
