Open in App
Solution

Vasa recta:

  1. Vasa recta are capillaries found in the nephron of kidneys.
  2. They run parallel to Henle's loop and are hairpin-loop shaped.
  3. Vasa recta runs towards the intestine.
  4. Blood flows through both the limbs of the vasa recta in a countercurrent pattern.
  5. The blood in the vasa recta flows in a countercurrent pattern as they act as the vessels that run down to the medullary tip (descending limbs) bend back and travel upward (ascending limbs).
  6. The plasma of blood in the vasa recta is hypertonic which facilitates the absorption of salt and ions from urine.
