Question

How is calcium level controlled in the body.

Open in App
Solution

Calcium levels controlled in the body:

  1. The parathyroid hormone that regulates blood calcium levels, is basically produced by the parathyroid glands.
  2. In reaction to low calcium levels in the blood, it is produced.
  3. Raising calcium levels in the bones, kidneys, and intestine is the major work of this hormone.
  4. When the calcium level in the blood is too high, thyrocalcitonin is also released.
  5. The levels are then reduced by inhibiting the release of calcium ions from the bones.
  6. Parathyroid hormone raises blood calcium levels by boosting calcium absorption from the intestine.
  7. It also mobilizes calcium from the bones to the blood.
