Open in App
Solution

Carbon dioxide is prepared in the laboratory when metal carbonates or metal hydrogen carbonates are treated with dilute acids.

  • One such example is given here in which-
  • Sodium bicarbonate(Baking soda) is treated with dilute Sulphuric acid to give Sodium sulfate, Water, and Carbon dioxide.
  • The equation of reaction is-

2NaHCO3(s)Sodiumbicarbonate+H2SO4(dil.)dil.SulphuricacidNa2SO4(s)Sodiumsulphate+2H2O(l)Water+2CO2(g)Carbondioxide
