Open in App
Solution

Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere by the following means:
  • Large amount of carbon dioxide is fixed by green plants. Green plants consume atmospheric carbon dioxide as raw material for photosynthesis. Some autotrophic bacteria also fix carbon dioxide.
  • Some marine animals fix small amounts of carbon dioxide directly. It is also dissolved in seawater to form carbonic acid. It is also utilized by marine organisms and converted into forms such as carbonates and bicarbonates (For e.g., corals and shells of molluscs).
