Formation of coal:

  1. The formation of coal takes millions of years,
  2. It was made from swamp forests on earth approximately 300 million years ago.
  3. When the vegetation of the area died, it fell into the swamps.
  4. Several of these layers were formed over the years.
  5. Due to the heat and the pressure, these layers kept getting compressed.
  6. Due to these conditions, the dead plants underwent many chemical changes and formed carbon-rich deposits.
  7. Over the years, these hardened to form coal.
