How is current fallow land different from fallow other than current fallow land? What efforts have reduced area under it?

Current fallow land is land which is not cultivated for one year or less than a year. Fallow land other than current fallow includes all lands which are taken up for cultivation but is temporarily out of cultivation for a period of not less than one year and not more than five years.

Efforts that have reduced the extent fallow land include multi-cropping, increased use of fertilizer, fall in the incidence of practices like shifting cultivation.
