  1. In thermal power plants the thermal energy is converted to electrical energy. This is done by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas, or oil.
  2. Examples of power plants in India are the Mauda Super Thermal Power plant, Obra Thermal Power plant, etc.

Procedure to produce electricity in thermal power plant

  1. To heat the water, a large amount of fossil fuel is burned, mainly coal.
  2. When water is heated to a high temperature, steam is produced.
  3. The turbine is powered through this steam.
  4. When the turbine turns, the shaft rotates as well, driving the generator. Electricity is generated by this generator.
