How is emf different from potential difference? Explain.

Potential difference refers to the difference in voltages between any two given points in a circuit. It depends on the resistance of the circuit.
Electromotive force(emf) refers to the voltage developed by an electrical source like cell/battery/generator in a circuit. It does not depend upon the resistance of the circuit.
