  1. In plants, ethylene refers to a phytohormone that regulates the growth and stress response in a plant.
  2. Ethylene production follows a two-step biochemical pathway.
  3. Step 1: S-adenosyl-L-methionine( SAM) is converted to 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid(ACC) by the enzyme ACC synthase( ACS).
  4. Step 2: ACC is converted to ethylene by the enzyme ACC oxidase( ACO).
