How is flaccidity structurally seen in plants?

Open in App
Solution

Flaccidity:

  1. Flaccidity refers to a condition when a plant cell is placed in a hypertonic solution and lacks turgidity.
  2. It is basically the state between turgidity and plasmolysis.
  3. When the water diffuses out of the cell, it gets shrunk and loses its shape, and therefore gets soft.
  4. It leaves space between the cell wall and cell membrane.
  5. The process is known as plasmolysis and the cell is said to be in plasmolyzed condition.
  6. The plant starts to wilt in this condition.
  7. When the cell becomes flaccid, the turgor pressure is reduced to zero.
