Part 1: Graphite

  1. Graphite is also termed as “Black Lead” as when it is used in paper, it makes the paper black.
  2. Graphite is one of the allotropic form of Carbon.

Part 2: Artificial preparation of Graphite:

  1. Graphite can be prepared artificially by heating Anthracite coal with small amount of Iron oxide (FeO) or Silica (SiO2) as a catalyst in an electric furnace.
  2. The reaction is shown below.
