Question

How is heat transferred by radiation?

Open in App
Solution

The heat is transferred by radiation in the following ways:

  1. Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic energy.
  2. The electromagnetic energy travels across our body when we sit near to heater in winter through radiation.
  3. Because any hot body like a heater emits electromagnetic waves which don't need any medium for its propagation.
  4. The electromagnetic waves are categorized according to different wavelengths such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays.

The energy of the electromagnetic wave can be analysed from the given equation below:

E=hν=hcλ

where, E=Energy of a given electromagnetic wave, ν is the frequency, λ is the wavelength, and his Planck's constant
