Uses of hydrogen in day-to-day life:

Hydrogen is the smallest element on the periodic table. It has a key role in our life as

  1. Lifting agent- As Hydrogen is the smallest and light atom, it is used as a lifting agent. It can be used in balloons for lifting but due to its flammable nature, Helium is used in place of hydrogen.
  2. Fuels- Hydrogen has flammable nature, it is used as fuel for rockets but it is very expensive to use.
  3. Chemicals - Hydrogen is used with a large number of chemicals. the formation of acid and bases takes place with the help of hydrogen. It is used in methyl alcohol which is found in paints, inks, cement
  4. Welding- Oxyhydrogen, is prepared by the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. This reaction is so powerful that a hot torch obtained from this reaction can be used to melt steel.
  5. Metals extraction- Hydrogen is used to extract metals from their ores. When Tungsten oxide is converted to Tungsten and water when treated with Hydrogen.
  6. Hydrogen Peroxide- It has a lot of uses like they are used as a disinfectant and for cleaning the mould. They are used for improving dental health by pouring over toothbrushes.

Thus, Hydrogen has a great role in everyday life.
