Question

How is lymphatic fluid propelled around the body?

Open in App
Solution

Lymphatic fluid:

  1. Lymph is the extracellular fluid flowing through the lymphatic system.
  2. Lymph flows in one direction from the interstitial spaces to the base of the neck of subclavian veins.
  3. The lymph is not pumped into the lymphatic veins by the heart.
  4. The fluid’s upward movement is hence dependent on the movement of joint pumps and muscles.
  5. The lymph nodes help in returning the extracellular fluid from the tissues to the central circulation.
