How is protein different from carbohydrates?
Protein:
Protein is a large macromolecule that is made up of more than one long chain of amino acids.
Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates are also called sugar molecules that are made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Differentiate between proteins and carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates | Proteins |
1. Made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms in a 1:2:1 ratio. | 1. Made up of small amino acid molecules consisting of a basic amino group, an acidic carboxyl group, and an alkyl group. |
2. These are classified as polysaccharides, monosaccharides, etc. | 2. These are classified as primary, secondary, and tertiary proteins. |
3. Various polysaccharides are linked together by glycosidic bonds. | 3. Various amino acids are linked together by a peptide bond. |
