How is rabies caused? Is it a viral fever?

Rabies:

  1. Rabies is an infectious disease that is caused by the rabies virus.
  2. It spreads through the biting of animals like dogs.
  3. As an effect of this infection, the diseased person experiences inflammation of the brain and spinal cord which is called encephalomyelitis.

Symptoms of rabies:

  1. Hydrophobia- fear of water.
  2. Pain in the abdomen
  3. Swelling in the brain and spinal cord
  4. Nausea
  5. Drowsiness
  6. Severe fever
  7. Hallucinations
  8. Insomnia
  9. Excess saliva secretion
  10. Cramps in the muscles

Rabies is said to be viral fever:

Since rabies is caused due to virus and its initial symptoms resemble that of the flu which accompanies high fever thus, it is said that rabies is a viral fever.
