Rigor mortis is the scientific term for the third stage of death identified by rigidity in the muscles. It is majorly caused by chemical changes in the muscles post mortem, which induce stiffness in limbs of the corpse. In humans, rigor mortis usually occurs around 4 hours post mortem.
