Question

How is root pressure useful in transporting water in plants?

Open in App
Solution

Root Pressure:

  • The pressure that is generated in the roots is known as root pressure.

Significance:

  • Root pressure facilitates the upward movement of water and minerals from roots to all parts of the plant.
  • It maintains a continuous supply of water and minerals to all plant parts.
  • Especially during transpiration, when the water is lost from the aerial parts of the plant, root pressure ensures a constant water supply.
  • Moreover, water and minerals have to move against gravity, and thus root pressure is quite essential.
