It is practiced on small patches of land where fields are not rotated time to time hence sedentary. It is practiced on large piece of land, extensively.

This type of farming depends on monsoon. Better irrigation facilities are available.
Primitive and old tools are used. Modern tools and equipments are used.
Production is low and mostly used for self consumption. Production is higher and used for resale.
It is labour intensive. It is capital intensive.
Food grains, vegetables etc are produced. Commercial crops like cotton, jute etc being cultivated.
