Question 1
How is soil formed?
The parent material (starting material) for the soil formation may be mineral rock and/or organic matter. When parent rock material is exposed to the atmosphere or when organic matter and/or minerals are deposited on the earth's surface, soil formation begins. The soil is formed by the breakdown of rocks at or near the surface of the earth through various physical, chemical and biological processes by various factors such as the sun, water, wind and even living organisms.
