Question

How is sound produced by beating a drum?

Open in App
Solution

  1. When the drum is hit, the head of the drum compresses the air inside the shell vibrating the skin of the drum.
  2. This vibrating skin then vibrates the air molecules surrounding it and is transferred to other air molecules and spread out.
  3. We hear the sound when these vibrating molecules enter our ears and force the eardrums in our ears and create the sensation of hearing.
  4. Thus, in this way the sound is produced by beating a drum.
