Role of sulphur:

Sulphur is a macronutrient and immobile element. It has the following functions:-

● Main constituents of coenzymes, vitamins (biotin and thiamine) and ferredoxin. Ferredoxin is important in electron transfer in photosynthesis.

● Formation of disulfide bridges: Plays a major role in forming tertiary and quaternary structures of proteins.

● Constituents of amino acids like cysteine and methionine.





Cysteine and methionine are the two sulphur-containing amino acids.
