Question

How is the concentration of hydronium Ion affected when the solution of an acid is diluted? Explain with the help of reaction.

Open in App
Solution

When an acid is diluted, the concentration of hydronium ions (H 3O +) per unit volume decreases. This means

that the strength of the acid decreases.

eg: HCL + H2O --> H3O+ + CL-

here the maximum amount of hydronium ion is produced with least water. on increasing the amount of water

its concentration per unit volume decreases and hence concentration decreases.
