Question

How is the electric potential difference between the two points defined ? State its S.I. unit.

Open in App
Solution

Electric potential difference between two points is defined as work done to move per unit charge from one point to the other in a current carrying conductor.

Thus,potential difference =fraction numerator w o r k space d o n e over denominator c h a r g e end fraction

=>1 V = J over C

So,S.I. unit of electric potential difference is Volt .It is denoted by V.

Potential difference between two points is measured by using an apparatus called voltmeter.

This device is always connected in parallel between two points where p.d. that is potential difference is to be measured.
