Question

How is the entry of only one sperm and not many ensured into an ovum during fertilisation in humans?

Open in App
Solution

During fertilization in humans, once the sperm comes in contact with ovum it depolarises the zona pellucida layer of ovum and also the fusion of cortical granule containing an enzyme with zona pellucida layer takes place which in turn blocks the entry of other sperms.
