Question

How is the loudness of sound related to:
(ii) distance of the observer from the vibrating body

Open in App
Solution

Step 1:

Distance of the observer from the vibrating body.

The loudness of the sound is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the source of the sound and the listener. So loudness decreases with an increase in distance.

It is given by the relation loudness1(distance)2

Thus, when the source of sound is closer to the listener, the loudness is more and vice versa.
