Question

How is the masking of active sites for myosin eliminated?

Open in App
Solution

Masking of active sites for myosin eliminated:

  1. The thin filament of muscle is known as actin filament, and the thick filament is known as myosin filament.
  2. The two contractile proteins have different structures.
  3. The Central Nervous System sends a signal that causes muscle contraction to begin.
  4. A motor unit is made up of a motor neuron and muscle fibers.
  5. The neuromuscular junction is the point where a motor neuron meets the sarcolemma.
  6. When a signal reaches its junction, it releases acetylcholine, which causes the sarcolemma to generate an action potential.
  7. It causes signal transmission through muscle fibers and the release of calcium ions into the sarcoplasm.
  8. Calcium ions rise, and troponin subunits on actin filaments bind to them.
  9. They remove the masking site for myosin filaments by binding, and by doing so, they need energy from ATP hydrolysis to do so.
