Municipal Corporation:​

The municipal corporation is a local governing body in urban areas. They are established in metropolitan cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc. A municipal Corporations is also called a 'Nagar Nigam'.
  • Municipal Corporation is comprised of General Council which comprises of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the Municipal Councillors.​
  • The General Council can then elect eminent persons of the city as Alderman.​
  • Every municipal corporation has Chief Executive Officer appointed by State Government.
Members​
  • Mayors elected by the members of Municipal Corporations called Municipal Councillors. ​
  • Besides the Mayor, Deputy Mayor is elected by the Councillors. ​
  • The Councillors are elected by the people.​
  • The term of office for Municipal Corporation is 5 years​
