How is the ocean wave energy harnessed?
Ocean wave energy:
Ocean wave energy is the type of energy that uses the vertical movement of surface ocean waves (containing kinetic energy) to perform many functions like producing electricity, pumping water, and many more.
The way to harness ocean wave energy:
The “oscillating water columns” are one of the systems used to harness ocean wave energy. In this method, the wave stream and air turbine are used to generate electricity.
1. The oscillating water columns are partially submerged in the ocean, having an underwater vent.
2. The ocean water is pushed into the chambers by the wave streams, which allow air to pass through the columns.
3. The motion of air spins the turbine in the column that is connected to a generator in order to obtain electricity.
